The Different Drummer

I’ve lived in Glebe for the past 3 months and I had shockingly never ventured out around Glebe Point Road at night time. The street is bursting with beautiful restaurants, a few pubs and some smaller bars. It is my mission to eventually visit them all but on a student budget this may take several years! One bar that’s always caught my eye is Different Drummer. Any night of the week it seems to be busy and the red lighting (no, not brothel red) makes it look seriously trendy.

The past Saturday my housemate and I decided to check it out and I’m very glad! The crowd is a mixture, both younger and older groups of friends & family, and cute couples on dates.  Don’t be put off from it’s size on the outside, it’s actually quite a big space going far back with an additional upstairs area & tapas restaurant.

I didn’t eat, but I did drink! I started with beer because as I mentioned before, I am a uni student. Pure Blondes were reasonably priced at $6. The bar staff were full of energy and served us with a smile. The music was a bit loud to try and attempt to chat the cute bartender up, but there’s always next time!

There was an array of tempting cocktails on the menu however at $14 – $18 a pop I could only afford one. Too bad we missed happy hour which runs 6pm – 7:30pm where you can get 2 for 1 deals, this makes it a perfect pre-drinking joint! I chose the Long Island Iced Tea and it was delicious. I’ll definitely be back to test out more.
