Interview with a Street Artist: Nico

Interview with a Street Artist: Nico
The intricate style of Nico is instantly recognisable on the streets of the Inner West. Nico is an amazingly talented artist, always happy to have a chat with interested passers-by about his art. I’ve been lucky enough to watch Nico painting some of his creations, the most recent being the striking owl that stood watch over the iconic and constantly changing May Lane in St Peters. I find...

MOST – Marrickville Open Studio Trail

MOST - Marrickville Open Studio Trail
Make sure you keep Saturday 9 and Sunday 10 March free for the Marrickville Open Studio Trail. Don’t miss the opportunity to check out forty two studios, galleries, and artist-run initiatives which will open their doors to the public. This is a great opportunity to experience Marrickville’s arts scene, watch artists at work and take advantage of purchasing art at studio prices. MOST is...

Great Garage Doors of the Inner West

Great Garage Doors of the Inner West
Nothing beats walking down the streets and through the lanes of the Inner West and finding great art on garage doors. There are some amazing designs out there. When I finally get around to fixing my dodgy back fence I need to find a street artist who can transform mine from a boring wooden paling fence into a work of art. Some of the street artists that have redesigned these garage doors throughout Newtown,...

May Lane Newbies + Old Favourites

May Lane Newbies + Old Favourites

There are five main panels that are positioned along the side of a building in May Lane and artists are invited to use the entire building as their canvas, or they can focus on the...

Drilling for gas in St Peters?

Drilling for gas in St Peters?
Are they kidding? Did anyone wake up this morning and hear the news about a company drilling for gas in St Peters and think it must be April Fool’s Day? But no it seems this is real. Apparently by all reports the NSW state government gave permission for gas miner Macquarie Energy to begin a test drill in St Peters, just 5 km from the CBD. The drilling site is within the Alexandria Landfill site...

The many talents of Mark Hetherington

The many talents of Mark Hetherington
“Talented” is a word that doesn’t even begin to describe Mark Hetherington, artist, musician and all round creative soul. His May Street art studio is an honest representation of who this man is; insightful, thought provoking and artistic to the core (with a definite streak of cheekiness mixed in there). I couldn’t resist the opportunity to visit Mark’s creative space at May Street Studio....
