The Counter, Petersham

The Counter, Petersham
In recent months there has been an influx of great cafes opening throughout the Inner West. While The Counter has been around for a couple of years, I only just recently discovered it, so it’s new to me. Clearly a favourite with locals who have been trying to keep this one a secret… sorry, the secret is out. Only a short stroll from Petersham railway station, The Counter is one to add...

Brighton the Corner, Petersham

Brighton the Corner, Petersham
Brighton The Corner is a new cafe in Petersham, only about one month old and already drawing a crowd. Scott Duncan and Nigel Park have created a cafe in a beautiful leafy street with a perfect corner position. Enjoy your coffee outside under the black and white striped awning, at the window seat overlooking Brighton Street or at a cosy table inside.  I love an all day breakfast menu and Brighton...

Two Chaps, Marrickville

Two Chaps, Marrickville
Two Chaps is a relative newcomer to Marrickville. Hidden behind a roller door on Chapel Street, this little gem is located just down the road from the Henson Hotel. What was once a welding shop has now been transformed by Piero Pignatti Morano and Richard Maxfield into a part cafe, part workshop where they create their tea, coffee and work on their bikes. Not only are Morano and Maxfield the creators...

The Grumpy Barista, Petersham

The Grumpy Barista, Petersham
Grumpy? Who are you calling grumpy? Not a single grumpy person in sight when I visited The Grumpy Barista in Petersham. Located in a gorgeous building on Audley Street and serving Tobys Estate coffee. The Italian eggs for breakfast were a winner! Two eggs in a tomato sauce, with chunky mushroom pieces and chorizo was delicious. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked great including the mushrooms...

Daisy’s Milkbar, Petersham

Daisy's Milkbar, Petersham
Inspired by the old Aussie milk bar, Daisy’s Milkbar is a welcome addition to the Inner West. The delicious food and friendly staff, lemonade stand and the colourful wooden booths will put a big smile on your face when you visit. Only one week old, it’s easy to see why there’s already of line of people waiting to try it out. The BBQ pulled pork sandwich with slaw was delicious, as...

West Juliett Cafe

West Juliett Cafe
West Juliett Cafe has made its mark in Marrickville. The quiet residential corner location, spacious interior and tasty menu has made this cafe a popular destination. Aptly named after its location (on corner of Juliett Street) the polished concrete floors, wooden tables and open kitchen create a welcoming environment and its a total transformation from the grocery store it was back in the 1960′s.   I...

A Hidden Gem – Sub Station Cafe

A Hidden Gem - Sub Station Cafe
I’ve just discovered that converting an electricity sub station into a cafe is a brilliant idea! Electric Substation 152 in Alexandria has been beautifully renovated, given new life and is now Sub-Station Cafe. I can’t believe that it’s taken me 6 months to discover this hidden gem! The owners have transformed the limited space into a fantastic indoor and outdoor area with a gorgeous...

Fleetwood Macchiato, Erskineville

Fleetwood Macchiato, Erskineville
Two visits to Fleetwood Macchiato in one week… I’m addicted! I can’t go past their smashed egg breakfast roll with mustard aioli, pickles, avocado, mushroooms and ham. When I walked along Erskineville Road earlier this week, I told myself that I was just going to pop in to get a coffee but memories of the smashed egg roll I had on the weekend came flooding back and I couldn’t...

Inner West Instagram Addict

Inner West Instagram Addict
It’s official, I’m addicted to Instagram. I don’t know how to stop! For those who haven’t heard of Instagram it’s a free photo sharing program which was launched in October 2010. It allows users to take a photo on their phone, apply a digital filter to it, and then share it on a variety of social networking services, including Instagram and Facebook. I love the square...

Revolver, Annandale

Revolver, Annandale
The food of the Inner West just gets better and better. On one of my recents visits to NOM Pizza to get my pizza fix, the guys told me about this little gem of a cafe in Annandale. Since my first visit to Revolver, everyone who I have tried to tell about this great foodie destination already knows about it. How did it remain a secret from me for so long? Revolver is a gorgeous corner terrace, oozing...
