Spotlight on an Inner West Business: Dough Box Sweet and Savoury Delights

I love my late night treats at Dough Box on Enmore Road.The ‘Melted Moment’ crepe is my favourite (nutella, white chocolate, strawberries and marshmellows) and their savoury crepes look delicious as well. Fiona and George opened Dough Box about a year ago and a big thanks to both of them for taking the time to answer some questions about their Inner West business. Next time you’re on Enmore Road drop in and say hello and try one of their sweet or savoury treats.

How did ‘Dough Box Sweet & Savoury Treats’ come about?
My husband George is a Baker by trade, he ran a Creperie in Athens, Greece for some time. When he arrived in Australia 12 years ago, he was shocked to find nothing like the many Creperies there, here. Some years later, we opened a Gourmet Pizza and Crepe Bar in the Western suburbs, and 11 months ago, made a few changes and moved Dough Box to Enmore Road.

For Inner Westies who may not have eaten at Dough Box before, what’s on the menu?
What isn’t on the menu! We specialise in Crispy Hand-held Crepes, or ‘Krepes’ (as they are known in Europe) with a huge variety of both Savoury and Sweet. They are made right in front of you, and rolled up into a ‘cone’ shape, ready to devour! We FRESH BAKE our Belgian Style Waffles, they are all served with Premium Ice cream and lashings of Fudge sauce and Whipped Cream! Our display freezer is packed with 22 Flavours of Norgen-Vaaz Ice cream, including some incredible ones such as ‘Doughnut’ and ‘Stairway to Heaven’ (white chocolate, caramel fudge and choc chips!) We are also very excited to be offering up all of the 1950′s old fashioned favourites, including Thickshakes, Ice cream Sodas, Banana Splits and Hot Fudge Sundaes. We have also recently introduced ‘Freddo Cappuccinno’s', an incredible  version of the Iced Coffee, served in very tall glass! Just in time for summer, we now also have Granitas, and will be experimenting with lots of different flavours over the next few weeks!

Why did you chose the Inner West as the location for your company?
We love the Inner West!

What’s the secret to making a great crepe?
Unfortunately I can’t reveal the secret; it would no longer be a secret ;)

Who’s responsible for new Doughbox crepe creations?
George is a Savoury lover, he is responsible for those, the Sweet is left to Fiona

What’s your best selling crepe?
Savoury: Avocado Bite: Chicken, Bacon, Mushrooms, Spring Onion, Fresh Tomato, Avocado, Sour Cream & Cheese
Sweet: Wicked Dough Box: Nutella, Banana, Strawberries, Tim Tam, Marshmallows, Milo & Whipped Cream

Following the famous quote “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life”, why do you love what you do so much?
Making Crepes is an art, especially making hand-held Crepes. We love seeing people watching intently as we make theirs, then walking happily away whilst they admire it! We love that we have brought something different to Enmore!

Are there any future plans for Dough Box that you can share with us?
We have big plans for Dough Box, both short term and long term, something exciting I can share with you right now, however is the return of our amazing THIN CRUST PIZZA!!! Stay tuned over the next few weeks for the official re-launch via facebook.
