Local Inner West business supporting “Cook for a Cure”

We know everyone is lacing up their shoelaces, taking practice walks around the streets of Sydney, and gearing up for City2Surf, but if you’re more of a foodie (and who isn’t!) join us this August to cook a great meal with friends and family and help out a good cause at the same time!

Cook for a Cure is a new nationwide community event, launched by Research Australia and running for the month of August. This is an opportunity for Australians to cook and share a healthy meal with friends, family and coworkers while helping to fund the next big medical discovery! This August, by registering to host a breakfast, lunch, dinner or picnic for your friends, you will be supporting research to help the millions of Australians who are affected by serious illness and diseases.

Every Australian will be impacted by a serious illness during their life either personally, or through friends or family. Cardiovascular diseases, mainly heart attacks and strokes, are Australia’s biggest killer of men and women and affect more than 3.7 million Aussies. That means that every 10 minutes, someone dies from a cardiovascular disease.

The George Institute for Global Health, Ambassador Chef Michael Moore and Research Australia encourage you to support the innovative and life-saving research on the “Polypill”, which combines multiple medications into one, easy-to-take pill. The Polypill will help sufferers of heart disease enjoy life again – i.e. dads get back to playing with their kids & grandmothers will see their grandchild’s first steps.

This is a great cause, but what if I’m unable to pull together a soirée, and how does it specifically relate to the inner west? Well, harvest to home is a local Inner West business (based and living in Leichhardt) that specializes in sourcing and supplying households with premium quality fresh produce at supermarket prices with free home delivery. Every morning, harvest to home sources the finest fruit, veg, fish, seafood, meat and chicken directly from the source to satisfy the day’s orders.

Beyond the produce itself, harvest to home has a large focus on health and wellness through food, resulting in a partnership with The George Institute for Global Health. So over the month of August, harvest to home will be contributing 10c in every dollar to The George Institute’s Polypill research and Cook for a Cure. To register and host an event, please visit: www.cookforacure.com.au. If you can’t host an event but you still want to make a difference, order your produce right to your front door from harvest to home this August at: www.harvesttohome.com.au

Wishing you happy & healthy eating this August,

harvest to home
