I’m a famous potato!

Not only am I an Inner West addict but I should also seek professional help regarding my addiction to potatoes. I love them. It doesn’t matter if they are mashed, roasted, fried, boiled – you name it, I will eat it! So I was very excited when I stumbled across the Highland Gourmet Potato stall at the Eveleigh Farmers Market on the weekend and met Norman.

I mean how can I not love potatoes after discovering that I actually have one named after me. Yes, that’s right, there is a potato called Nadine. Unfortunately Norman didn’t have me on his stand but I did a little bit of research and discovered that “Nadine” is the all purpose potato with cream skin and cream flesh and firm, waxy texture (if only that were true about the person). I am a little bit excited by this news! This is a photo of me below :)

Eveleigh Farmers Markets is held every Saturday from 8am to 1pm at Carriageworks and is home to over 70 regular stallholders. Every Saturday food lovers can get their fix of farm fresh produce including seasonal fruit and vegetables, organic produce, lamb, beef, nuts, fresh pasta, artisan cheese, free range pork,  dairy, sweet & savoury treats, olive oil, artisan breads and local boutique wines plus delicious coffee and breakfast and flowers. You name it – they have it. There is even a guy who can sharpen your knives for you.

Of course I had to sample several different foods just to get in the spirit of the markets including dark chocolate and Tia Maria potato truffles – yummo! I bought some delicious Sonoma bread, a couple of breakfast pasties (to share of course) and fresh fruit for the week. I wanted to try the Pat and Stick’s Homemade Ice-Cream but I had already passed my food intake limit by the time I found their stall.

The great thing about shopping at Eveleigh Farmers’ Market is it gives you the opportunity to meet the makers, buy organic, support NSW and ACT farmers and producers and well as being part of the community. So next time you have a free Saturday morning pop down to the Carriageworks and say hello to Norman and pick up some great produce.
