Higher Ground Studio

Bet you didn’t have a better weekend than me!

On Friday I managed to buy an original Beastman artwork at the grand opening of the new Colour By Numbers Gallery on Enmore Road. I was also lucky enough to meet Beastman on the night and to say that I was super excited by this would be a dramatic understatement. I tried my best to play it cool so that I didn’t scare him, but I’m not sure how successful I was. That in itself would have been enough to make my weekend, but that was only the beginning!

On Sunday I visited the Higher Ground Studio on Parramatta Road which is the artistic home of artists Ears, Beastman, Bennett, Birdhat, Mark Alsweiler, Max Berry, Numskull, Phibs, and Tom Ferson. It was an Open Day for the studio which gave everyone a rare opportunity to drop in and see how these artists work and to check out their creative space. For those of you have read any of my blogs about street art you would know that these are all my favs! Sweet, sweet, sweet!

Walking into the studio, my level of excitement could best be described as a kid walking into a candy store… a street art candy store! I loved it! It was fantastic to be able to see the individual work styles and different studio areas of each artist and the wide variety of art they were all creating.

I also got a sneak peak at the work that Phibs will be showing at his upcoming exhibition at Plump Gallery (on the 8 September) and the day was topped off by meeting street artist, Birdhat, whose work on the street brings a smile to my face every time I see it! Ears and Birdhat have both kindly agreed to be interviewed and here’s hoping I can get all the Higher Ground Studio artists on board as well!

I hope there are more open days planned for the future. Can’t wait for the next one.
