Hardware Gallery on Enmore Road

Now I need to make something perfectly clear from the start – I am no art critic and I am not going to pretend to be one! My only qualification is I enjoy going to galleries and exhibitions to see the amazing work that so many creative people are producing. I just want to let you know a little bit about exhibitions and galleries in the Inner West and encourage you to get out there and have a look at all the great work.

I have driven past Hardware Gallery on Enmore Road countless times and there is always something interesting in the window that catches my eye. The gallery is a great space and actually has two exhibition areas – one on street level and another one level down. At the moment there are two exhibitions running in the gallery, Janette Hanrahan – “From Roots to Riches” (13 July – 31 July) and Gregory Godhard – “My Own Little Worlds” (13 July – 30 July).

Gregory Godhard’s exhibition, My Own Little Worlds is a collection of miniature dioramas, and as the exhibition title indicates we are enticed to peers into snapshots of the artists imagination. While some scenes are witty, dramatic and comedic, others are a little more deranged and strange, but all equally engaging especially for the voyeur in us all.

Janette Hanrahan’s artworks are a documentation of her travels from her home in the Southern Highlands to the city and the Northern Territory. Her work is beautifully organic and linear, recording the changing nature of the environment. Hanrahan experiments with a variety of textures and effects and conveys her warmth, love and appreciation for the environment through watercolours, linocuts, wood cuts and artist books.

I love the graphic and design quality of her work and I think her work is reasonably priced ($150 – $900), with the majority of her work in the $250-$300 range.

For those record enthusiasts out there, drop in and check out the Record Room. They buy and sell used vinyl specialising in electronic and dance. It it a cosy room that has 1000′s of vinyl records across all genres including pop, rock, 70”s, 80′s and loads more. Take some time to browse through the records, listen to anything that catches your fancy and of course purchase if you wish.

Hardware Gallery has constantly rotating exhibitions so make sure you check in with them regularly.

If you know of any galleries or exhibitions in the Inner West that are worth a look please let me know.

Galleries please open on Sunday……What a shame this gallery is not open on a Sunday or at least one Sunday a month. Had a quick look in the shopfront today and the work looks very interesting. Sunday is my free day to shop and gallery visit. Visited the Wilson Gallery, (open Wednesdy to Sunday) Wilson St Newtown…… well worth a visit.
