Old City Kitchen & Bar in Newtown

Old City Kitchen & Bar in Newtown
Located in the heart of Newtown, Old City Kitchen & Bar has launched a new menu inspired by the tastes of Jerusalem and surrounding countries thanks to Executive Chef, Chrys Xipolitas. This is a great restaurant to enjoy with a group of friends so you can try everything! I shared a delicious mezza plate followed by entrees which included zucchini flowers, the new city prawns and calamari,...

Forget the socks and undies this Father’s Day bring on the DAD BAG
The Dad Bag could be the greatest Father’s Day gift idea EVER. The perfect combination of the finest gourmet sausages and beer from the Inner West. This is sure to catapult me straight to the top of the ‘Favourite Child’ list this year. The Dad Bag is the perfect gift for any dad with a taste for craft beer, artisan sausages and lashings of hot sauce. Stocked with Chrissy’s...

The Counter, Petersham

The Counter, Petersham
In recent months there has been an influx of great cafes opening throughout the Inner West. While The Counter has been around for a couple of years, I only just recently discovered it, so it’s new to me. Clearly a favourite with locals who have been trying to keep this one a secret… sorry, the secret is out. Only a short stroll from Petersham railway station, The Counter is one to add...

Grumpy Baker, Marrickville

Grumpy Baker, Marrickville
There’s a new baker in Marrickville and apparently he’s grumpy. That may well be, but his bread is delicious. I guess if I had to get up at the crack of dawn to bake for hungry Inner Westies, I’d be grumpy too :) Located in the industrial area of Marrickville on Meeks Road, Grumpy Baker houses the bakery out the back, a cafe at the front and a big glass window separates the two areas. Owner...

Brighton the Corner, Petersham

Brighton the Corner, Petersham
Brighton The Corner is a new cafe in Petersham, only about one month old and already drawing a crowd. Scott Duncan and Nigel Park have created a cafe in a beautiful leafy street with a perfect corner position. Enjoy your coffee outside under the black and white striped awning, at the window seat overlooking Brighton Street or at a cosy table inside.  I love an all day breakfast menu and Brighton...

Paesanella Food Emporium in Marrickville is OPEN!

Paesanella Food Emporium in Marrickville is OPEN!
Foodies rejoice! Marrickville just keeps getting better and better. I have watched with interest the development of the Paesanella Food Emporium over the last couple of months, but it wasn’t until yesterday that I ventured inside. I’m kicking myself now for not going earlier. Paesanella Cheese, is an Australian family owned business that has been operating out of a factory in Marrickville...

Two Chaps, Marrickville

Two Chaps, Marrickville
Two Chaps is a relative newcomer to Marrickville. Hidden behind a roller door on Chapel Street, this little gem is located just down the road from the Henson Hotel. What was once a welding shop has now been transformed by Piero Pignatti Morano and Richard Maxfield into a part cafe, part workshop where they create their tea, coffee and work on their bikes. Not only are Morano and Maxfield the creators...

The Grumpy Barista, Petersham

The Grumpy Barista, Petersham
Grumpy? Who are you calling grumpy? Not a single grumpy person in sight when I visited The Grumpy Barista in Petersham. Located in a gorgeous building on Audley Street and serving Tobys Estate coffee. The Italian eggs for breakfast were a winner! Two eggs in a tomato sauce, with chunky mushroom pieces and chorizo was delicious. Everything that came out of the kitchen looked great including the mushrooms...
