Newtown Festival 2010… I’m melting!

Newtown Festival 2010... I'm melting!
It may have poured at the Marrickville Festival a couple of weeks ago but the sun was beating down in full force on Sunday for the annual Newtown Festival. I just don’t get the weather at the moment, it is either too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry… I’m never happy. But honestly on Sunday I was melting! Armed with sunscreen I headed in early for a quick breakie at Vargabar Espresso...

Festival fever in Marrickville despite the crappy weather

Festival fever in Marrickville despite the crappy weather
Waking to the sound of pouring rain on Sunday did not bring a smile to my face. It was Marrickville Festival day – what a disaster. My only positive thought was that the festival wasn’t kicking off until 11am – maybe the weather might improve by then. No such luck. I headed up to Marrickville Road around lunchtime and had to jump over puddles and raging rivers in some laneways. But...

War Paint – Ears Solo Exhibition

War Paint - Ears Solo Exhibition
I have been completely slack with my posts lately, which I completely blame on a long and painful renovation (more on the reno nightmare in blogs to come). But this blog, in particular is way over due. I wrote about an upcoming exhibition by Ears called “War Paint” a while back, the exhibition is long gone but I thought you might still be interested in seeing the artwork he created, in...

Changing Lanes Festival – Newtown

Changing Lanes Festival - Newtown
Eliza Street in Newtown was transformed into a laneway music festival on Sunday the 19th September for FBi Radio’s Changing Lanes Festival. It was a truly unique smaller scale set up for Sydney and I’m glad I was a part of the debut. Now I can always say “I was there when it first started”…. Eliza Street was barricaded off and the main stage was at the end. Although there were 2000 people...

Time Out in Newtown

In the “Around Town’ section created by Thomas Mitchell, there is a full page dedicated to “Within 2 minutes walk of Newtown station”. Amongst the highlights is Sacks Coffee, Vargabar, Gelato Blue, Dendy, Octopus Design, Oscillate Wildly, Black Star Pastry, Coffee and a Yarn, Repress Records and Pentimento Papeterie, just...

The many talents of Mark Hetherington

The many talents of Mark Hetherington
“Talented” is a word that doesn’t even begin to describe Mark Hetherington, artist, musician and all round creative soul. His May Street art studio is an honest representation of who this man is; insightful, thought provoking and artistic to the core (with a definite streak of cheekiness mixed in there). I couldn’t resist the opportunity to visit Mark’s creative space at May Street Studio....

The Earth Plate – Marrickville Organic Farmers Markets

The Earth Plate - Marrickville Organic Farmers Markets
On Sunday, my hubby and I were counting off the minutes till lunchtime so that we could down tools at the renovation site of what is to be our future home, but currently looks like a complete dog box. We headed to Marrickville Organic Farmers Market which is only a short walk away, to get a bite to eat. I am fast becoming a regular visitor to these markets and have been eyeing off a dish called the...

The Imperial Hotel Re-opens

The Imperial Hotel Re-opens
It has been a while between drinks at The Imperial Hotel and there has been many a debate and wager over whether it would actually ever happen, but the Imperial has finally (after 3 years) re-opened it’s doors to the public. Supporting the Sydney Fringe, the Imperial doors have swung open and invited everyone in to check out the new reno and enjoy a drink or two. Being the party animal that...
