Bourke Street Bakery goodness! (in Marrickville)

I am in serious trouble… I have just discovered Bourke Street Bakery in Marrickville. Firstly, I can’t believe that nobody has told me about this place until now but secondly, my body is in sooooo much trouble now that I have discovered it. The worst thing about this whole situation is that the bakery is only a hop, skip and a jump away from my front door. This has disaster written all over it.

I have visited the Bourke Street Bakery in Surry Hills many times and have never been disappointed with a single purchase and the Marrickville bakery did not disappoint today either. I dropped in on my way home from work , just before the bakery closed and picked up a small selection of cakes to sample for an afternoon snack as well as a loaf of their fabulous sourdough bread (to die for!)

One Lemon curd tart, one chocolate and raspberry mousse tart, one piece of carrot cake and the lovely lady who served me, very generously added an extra vanilla rhubarb and brulee tart, free of charge, to sample (a new addition to their already impressive menu). You will be happy to know that I didn’t eat them all by myself but I definitely tasted a bit of each and they were all ridiculously good.

All I can say is that it is lucky that I joined a gym this week, although it might help if I actually start to go!

Do yourself a favour and pop into Bourke Street Bakery in Marrickville. They don’t just do amazing sweets and desserts – their menu is extensive. Breakfast, pies and sausage rolls, quiches, sandwiches, pizza and a different kind of sourdough bread is baked fresh daily (Monday – hazlenut and raisin, Tuesday – fig and burberry, Wednesday – prune and roasted almond, Thursday – walnut and currant, Saturday – fig and burberry / hazelnut and raisin, and on Sunday – fig and burberry / fennel and raisin and cherry /brioche).

I also recently discovered that Marrickville Council has signed up seven local food producers and retailers for the “Made in Marrickville” campaign. The council wants the area to become known to foodies as a place for high quality, locally made produce. Bourke Street Bakery is one of the companies that has joined, as well as Mum’s Choice (national supplier of dips like hummus and babghanoush) and Casa Del (gelato, cakes, biscuits and other desserts). ”Made in Marrickville” was launched last October at the Marrickville Festival. If there is anyone out there that knows about any other companies that are involved in this campaign let me know.
