Bourke Street Bakery goodness! (in Marrickville)

Bourke Street Bakery goodness! (in Marrickville)
I am in serious trouble… I have just discovered Bourke Street Bakery in Marrickville. Firstly, I can’t believe that nobody has told me about this place until now but secondly, my body is in sooooo much trouble now that I have discovered it. The worst thing about this whole situation is that the bakery is only a hop, skip and a jump away from my front door. This has disaster written all...

LOVE in Newtown

LOVE in Newtown
I spotted this lovely piece of street art in Newtown. The details are so gorgeous. Art created from aluminium cans, thread, wrappers, a tomato sauce container, soccer ball, train ticket, teddy bear, a lychee, wool, plastic frog, bottle caps, wood and a plastic knife. What a lovely addition to the state rail fence overlooking the train line. I LOVE Newtown! I LOVE the inner west! I LOVE street art! [View...

35 degrees at 10am – 10 things to do to get out of this horrid heat!

35 degrees at 10am - 10 things to do to get out of this horrid heat!
1. Become a member of Dendy Cinemas Newtown and start a movie marathon. Loads of great movies out at the moment. I would see The Fighter (12.30pm), Another Year (2.50pm), Black Swan (4.30pm),  True Grit (7pm), and finish the marathon with The King’s Speech (9.10pm). 2. Stop in for a gelato at Gelato Blue on King Street. I love the lemon and berries but the hokey pokey and chocolate is also...

Recovering from my meat coma at Kelby’s Cafe

Recovering from my meat coma at Kelby's Cafe
For the last month, while in South America my food intake has basically consisted of meat, bread and red wine, so visiting Kelby’s Cafe on my first morning back in Oz I was so happy to be able to order my favourite breakie, ‘The Egyptian’ (sweet potato, fetta and dukkah served on chunky hommus toast with poached eggs $13)! The mixed berry and apple frappe completely hit the spot...

Street Art Overload – not possible!

Street Art Overload - not possible!
It has been ages since my last post but I have a good excuse – I have just returned from a trip to South America! A fantastic journey from Rio, Brazil through Uruguay and finishing in Buenos Aires, Argentina. While this blog may not be about the inner west I thought some inner westies out there might want to check out the awesome graffiti I saw on my travels. Talented artists those South Americans! Graffiti...

Christmas Season
The Christmas season is well and truly here – ready or not here comes Santa! Is it just me or has this year just flown by. Well if you need any help getting into the Christmas spirit on the 18 and 19 December (10am-2pm) there will be live entertainment and Christmas Carols on Marrickville and Illawarra Roads. “Get Folked”, “The Sparrows” and Juggler Extraordinaire”...

Dear Santa…

Dear Santa...
Dear Santa, All I want for Christmas (other than world peace and happiness of course) is for my plumber to come back to install my kitchen sink so I no longer have to wash up the dishes in the bathroom basin and while he is there it would be great if he could also hook up my laundry tub so that I don’t have to take all my washing to my brother’s house. I would be really grateful if you...

The Australian Mermaid – Annette Kellerman and her new aquatic centre

The Australian Mermaid - Annette Kellerman and her new aquatic centre
Annette Marie Sarah Kellerman, the ‘Australian Mermaid’ (6 July 1887 – 5 November 1975) led an amazing life. She was a distance swimmer, diver, theatrical performer, mermaid, feminist, fitness advocate, silent-movie star and advocate for the change of women’s swimwear. She is often credited for inventing the sport of synchronised swimming after her 1907 performance of the...

Finders Keepers Markets is a Christmas present smorgasbord!

Finders Keepers Markets is a Christmas present smorgasbord!
The fact that the Finders Keepers Market only happens twice a year and is only open for 2 days means that if you didn’t get to the markets last night – you have to move your butt and get there today! I have had this date in my calendar for ages and have been counting down the days! I popped in last night for a look and the creative design and art stalls did not disappoint. The markets provide...

I’m loving the Imperial Priscilla Show

I'm loving the Imperial Priscilla Show
It was recently my sisters birthday and where does every straight woman want to go for her birthday bash, why the Imperial Hotel Priscilla Drag Show of course and it was fan-bloody-tastic! We started the night at Razors Bistro cocktail lounge, then stuffed ourselves silly on a delicious and unbelievably huge $35/head banquet at Sultans Table. With garlic breath strong enough to knock out an innocent...
