A Hidden Gem – Sub Station Cafe

I’ve just discovered that converting an electricity sub station into a cafe is a brilliant idea! Electric Substation 152 in Alexandria has been beautifully renovated, given new life and is now Sub-Station Cafe. I can’t believe that it’s taken me 6 months to discover this hidden gem! The owners have transformed the limited space into a fantastic indoor and outdoor area with a gorgeous hanging garden, table and bench seating and beautiful lighting consisting of bare bulb light fittings in bed springs.

I accidentally stumbled across this great cafe last week as I drove down McEvoy Street. Located just around the corner from Dan Murphy’s, Sub-Station Cafe is a little oasis on busy McEvoy Street. I’ve already enjoyed a delicious poached chicken salad for a mid-week lunch and returned on the weekend for their breakfast roll. I’ll be back soon to try other tempting dishes off the menu and their muffins and baked goodies look amazing.  They have a Single Origin house blend. Currently open Monday -Saturday, definitely worth checking out!
