A crazy world of antiques and design

The Antique and Design Gallery in Alexandria has to be seen to be believed. You can’t miss this bright yellow warehouse as you drive along Mitchell Road and it brings new meaning to the phrase “jam packed”! The ground floor is full (literally packed from the floor to the ceiling) with pre-loved items of furniture, clothing, accessories, instruments, surfboards, bicycles… you name it – they have it (somewhere). It is so full of stuff it is almost overwhelmingly crazy and I found it really difficult to concentrate on anything because there are so many things to look at. I’m sure there were loads of treasures to be found but I didn’t have the patience to sort through everything.

While downstairs has a bit of a chaotic feel to it, upstairs was another story altogether. The gallery upstairs is a showcase of some lovely antiques and great design pieces.  I had so much fun to looking around and I fell in love with several gorgeous lights but the serious price tags put most purchases out of my reach. A life size sardine tin, lego man and a realistic looking Terminator 2 prop from Planet Hollywood worth $2,200 were also amusing finds. I don’t think it matters whether you are into antiques and design or not, I think everyone who walks into this warehouse will find something they love, or at least have a bit of a giggle remembering how some things used to be very popular…and now, not so much.
