Going solo at the movies

Going solo at the movies
A few weeks ago I finished work early and I had absolutely nothing to do, no hot date and no ridiculous rsvp date (offically I am no longer surfing rsvp’s website). I did feel like a wine though and a few hours with a gorgeous man so I turned off my phone and I headed to the Dendy Newtown for a few hours with George Clooney. Seriously this man gets better and better with age, especially when...

I’m loving the Imperial Priscilla Show

I'm loving the Imperial Priscilla Show
It was recently my sisters birthday and where does every straight woman want to go for her birthday bash, why the Imperial Hotel Priscilla Drag Show of course and it was fan-bloody-tastic! We started the night at Razors Bistro cocktail lounge, then stuffed ourselves silly on a delicious and unbelievably huge $35/head banquet at Sultans Table. With garlic breath strong enough to knock out an innocent...

Australian Stencil Art Prize 2010

Australian Stencil Art Prize 2010
Oh Really Gallery recently hosted the opening of the 2nd Australian Stencil Art Prize (ASAP) with the crowd spilling onto Enmore Road. The Australian Stencil Art Prize recognises and rewards Australian stencil artists and this year the exhibition features 20 finalists.  The winning artwork was ‘Saul Williams’ by E.L.K  and the detail in it is amazing. There is something that will appeal to...

Newtown Festival 2010… I’m melting!

Newtown Festival 2010... I'm melting!
It may have poured at the Marrickville Festival a couple of weeks ago but the sun was beating down in full force on Sunday for the annual Newtown Festival. I just don’t get the weather at the moment, it is either too hot, too cold, too wet, too dry… I’m never happy. But honestly on Sunday I was melting! Armed with sunscreen I headed in early for a quick breakie at Vargabar Espresso...

Drilling for gas in St Peters?

Drilling for gas in St Peters?
Are they kidding? Did anyone wake up this morning and hear the news about a company drilling for gas in St Peters and think it must be April Fool’s Day? But no it seems this is real. Apparently by all reports the NSW state government gave permission for gas miner Macquarie Energy to begin a test drill in St Peters, just 5 km from the CBD. The drilling site is within the Alexandria Landfill site...

Ikea opens in Tempe in 2011

Ikea opens in Tempe in 2011
Anyone driving along the Princes Highway at Tempe lately would have noticed the dramatic changes at the expanse of land on the eastern side of the Princes Highway (630 – 726 Princes Highway). In late 2011 Ikea Tempe is scheduled to open and things are happening there fast.  Buildings have been cleared and concrete is being poured. Here are some facts you might not know about Ikea and the new...

Post Cafe Marrickville

Post Cafe Marrickville
I recently received a recommendation from a fellow Inner Westie on facebook to go and check out Post Cafe in Marrickville. After another hard day of renovating, we were starving. We headed up to the cafe for what I thought was a late lunch on Sunday arvo, only to find the cafe absolutely packed – inside and out. There is an extensive menu and a very attractive dessert bar that was tempting me...

The inner west features in ’52 Suburbs’

The inner west features in '52 Suburbs'
I love photography and I love the Inner West so when my sister sent me a link to “52 Suburbs” I thought I definitely needed to share it with all my Inner West pals. Louise Hawson is the creative force behind 52 Suburbs. A nasty bite from a white tailed spider gave Louise the wake up call she needed to realise how life is so precarious and to rediscover her love of photography. So Louise...

New Series: Neighbourhood Watch – Inner West Real Estate

New Series: Neighbourhood Watch – Inner West Real Estate
Since every Sydneysider is obsessed with real estate, and real estate is soooo hot right now in the Inner West, we thought it appropriate to start a new series focusing on Inner West real estate. As a real estate agent living in the Inner West, I got the job. So this week I thought it appropriate to look at a very unusual property that got the interest of home buyers, investors and builders alike....
